Bang Bang Sauce is sweet, spicy, creamy, and a perfect sauce for seafood, meat, and vegetables. It’s such a delicious and easy sauce to drizzle and dip for all kinds of dishes. It may be known as the sauce for the Bonefish Grill Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer, but this homemade version is even better!
We've been seriously obsessed with this sauce. Especially Grey, he freakin' loves the stuff with almost anything.
I featured it in my Bang Bang Chicken recipe not too long ago, but I got a couple DMs asking if I can just have the sauce recipe up.
Sure. Works for me, works for you, and works for my dinner.
So what is Bang Bang Sauce?
Bang Bang Sauce is famous for coating Bonefish Grill’s popular Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer. It’s sweet and savory, and made with mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha (or your favorite hot sauce), and a little honey.
At Bonefish Grill, they use a specific brand of Thai sweet chili sauce. Luckily, it’s readily available on Amazon and in Asian markets.
To make it, all you need is to mix all the ingredients in a small bowl and keep it covered in the fridge until ready to use! Literally done in under a minute!
Is this sauce healthy or diet friendly?
I know, a big dollop of mayo isn’t exactly the healthiest thing with the saturated fat and all. You can replace the mayonnaise with equal parts Greek yogurt instead.
As for making it Keto, you can leave out the honey, use Keto-friendly mayo, and garlic chili sauce instead of sweet chili sauce.
For such a simple sauce, it's a powerhouse of flavor. Toss it in pasta, shrimp, chicken, dip veggies, use in poke, I mean, it's so diverse and so delish that I can't see what savory meal it can't go with!
When you whip this up, remember to taste as you go. I like mine to be a bit on the sweeter side with the honey, but remember that cooking (not baking!) can always be made to taste and doesn't have to follow an exact recipe.
Oh, quick tip: if you find your sauce too spicy, instead of adding more sweetness with honey, add a little bit of lemon juice to the sauce! The sourness of the lemon actually confuses the tastebuds and the “spicy” triggers in the brain, making it seem less spicy. Gotta love science!
