Impress your muggle friends with this Harry Potter themed cocktail recipe, a molten gold shot of liquid luck! This Felix Felicis potion is perfect for your Halloween party: fun, flavorful, and so pretty!

Was I at a GameStop midnight release party for the Hogwarts Legacy game? Why, yes. Yes I was. Hubs and I won 2nd in trivia, by the way, it's that serious for me.
Did we also geek out the entire time we played the game? Absolutely! I was the biggest Harry Potter as a kid, and we love the magic the books hold for Greyson now as well.
ST+T is no stranger to a Harry Potter-inspired recipe, and this one is no different. We found a honey mead from a 'local' (meaning in the DMV) brewery vendor, and it was literally destiny because I was trying to find a perfectly gold base to create the perfect felix felicis drink.

Take a Shot of Liquid Luck
Honey mead with bourbon, a little cinnamon simple syrup, some cointreau and orange bitters for depth make this warmly spiced cocktail. Then we really make this into a magical potion with gold luster dust to give it that characteristic golden swirl.
This is a very simple cocktail, really I wanted it to be a 'shot' because Felix Felicis is supposed to be sipped slowly or taken as a shot, but I think it's a nice small sipping cocktail.

What is the Felix Felicis Potion in Harry Potter?
Felix Felicis, also known as liquid luck, is a potion that is difficult to brew and takes six months to mature. But once it's done right, just one sip of it will give the drinker extreme luck. Almost anything you try can be achieved, it can turn any ordinary day into an extraordinary day. It's purely good luck.
It was first introduced to us in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, a prize in a golden cauldron, the golden potion within was splashing about merrily and never losing a drop.
Drinking too much of this concoction can cause extreme giddiness along with dangerous amounts of overconfidence and recklessness. It's toxic in large amounts or if made incorrectly.
Ingredients
- Honey Mead - honey mead is also known as honey wine, and tastes like it. It's sweet and fruity and has that perfect gold
- Bourbon - use your favorite. I like Maker's Mark, it's a smooth bourbon that goes well with the mead.
- Cinnamon Sticks, Granulated Sugar, Water - this is all we need for our simple syrup. It only takes about 10 minutes to simmer and a little time to chill!
- Cointreau - this is an orange liqueur that brightens up our drink with some citrus flavor.
- Orange Bitters - for a little depth of flavor.
- Gold Luster Dust - this is an edible glitter that adds sparkle and shimmer to get that Felix Felicis look.

Instructions
- Step 1 | Make the simple syrup by setting the cinnamon, sugar and water over medium high heat in a small saucepan. Let it simmer for 10 to 15 minutes until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from the heat and let it cool completely before using. (An ice bath helps)
- Step 2 | Stir together the mead, bourbon, cointreau, bitters, cinnamon syrup, and luster dust or shake it up in a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Step 3 | Pour the cocktail into your glass and serve cold with small stirrers. The gold dust will fall to the bottom eventually so stirring occasionally is advised.
Variations and Pro Tips
In lieu of mead - you can use your favorite moscato or prosecco instead of mead. I've also used apple cider, which makes for a darker drink but it still does the trick.

Equipment
- Mixing Glass or Cocktail Shaker
FAQs
Though this cocktail is based off of the Harry Potter potion, I cannot guarantee any good luck will come from it. However, it may produce the same effects when overdosed: dangerous amounts of overconfidence and recklessness. It's a cocktail after all.
