Meet Eden Westbrook
Founder of Sweet Tea + Thyme, Classically Trained Recipe Developer, Professional Food Photographer, and Food Stylist.
I started Sweet Tea + Thyme in 2015, as a creative outlet for sharing recipes with friends back home after culinary school, and inspiring a love of food and culture online. It has now grown as a space for sharing down-home and refined Southern cuisine, nostalgic dishes from my childhood, and spreads for the holidays and entertaining.
I'm a recipe developer and columnist for Taste of the South Magazine and have been featured on Martha Stewart, Food52, Essence Magazine, Country Living, Cosmopolitan, and so many more.
My Background
- I grew up surrounded by women who were always cooking. My abuela, my mama, my grandma, my aunties. My mother sold cakes and sweets every holiday season and brought her dream of owning a BBQ food truck to life.
- As a little girl, I was always in my friends' kitchens and learning from their parents, and when you live in places like on military bases in the 7 Cities or in the melting pot of South Florida, you end up loving the foods and cultures of those friends. It's where my love for griot, bao, bisteca, arepas, pho, lumpia, and so many other meals were born!
- At 16 I joined the U.S. Navy, just like my daddy (and both granddaddies, who were in the U.S. Army). Yes, you can join as a minor. I graduated high school before leaving for RTC Great Lakes.
- In 2014, I joined Le Cordon Bleu Miami as a student and this is when I began dabbling in food blogging as a hobby as my childhood friends were asking for recipes and cooking tips.
- 2015-present, I started blogging with Sweet Tea + Thyme. This site grew into a warm community space where millions come to create and share with family and friends and I couldn't be more grateful for y'all to be here with me!
A few of my favorite...
life things
- My family and I live in the Virginian Hunt Country at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
- We call our home The Fig Orchard for the many fig trees in our backyard. We also have grapevines and a small garden!
- I'm never a stranger to a farmers' market. I will always visit one, especially when traveling to experience the area's fresh foods and cultures!
